In order to obtain permanent authorization to work with rodents, all students/researchers must successfully perform all the steps required, as detailed here.
IMPORTANT - All steps must be done within the six month period for which the temporary authorization is valid.

Care and Use of Animals (94810) - ENGLISH LECTURES:

Theoretical test
After viewing lectures, you must register for the exam through the Authority's website.
The test will be held 4 times a year. Registration will open two and a half months before each test and will close one week before the test date, or upon reaching the maximum number of examineesfor a given test date.
The test will be held in a large hall, in accordance with Purple Badge directives.
The examinees should arrive at exam hall up to half hour before the start time in order to register and get organized to take the test. The test lasts one hour (60 minutes).
At the end of the exam, the tests will be transmitted through the University system for evaluation.
Once the exams have been evaluated, the Ethics Coordinator will notify each of the registrants of their test result by email. Students who do not pass the exam may sign up to take the exam again on the next date.
STEP B - Practical training:
1. This step must be carried out under the close guidance of the lead researcher or an experienced and skilled researcher, who possess permanent authorization, from the laboratory group or another group (appointed by the lead researcher for this purpose).
2. The Chief Investigator (or another instructor, if any) is responsible for instructing and training the student in performing the actual procedures in accordance with the accepted methods and emphases, as detailed in the instruction pages and as domonstrated in the videos. Please See Bellow:

3. The veterinary staff of the Biological Models Authority is at the disposal of the chief and the trainees, to provide advice or technical assistance required for practical training.
4. The practical training and practice will continue for several weeks / months ,until the instructor and lead researcher see that the student performs the procedures on their own properly, and are able to successfully pass a practical that includes all the mandatory procedures.
STEP C - Signing the declaration form:
1. At this point, after successfully completing review of the course lectures, test, and the practical training (as described in the previous section), the lead researcher, the advisor and the student should fill out and sign the Declaration form.

2. Along with the declaration form, a confirmation of studies (for Hebrew University students) or a confirmation of payment for the course (for those who are not Hebrew University students), must be attached to the email.
3. Upon receipt of the signed declaration form and the certification (tuition or payment), and after approval of the Chairman of the Ethics Committee, The Ethics Coordinator will issue a permanent authorization certificate to the researcher/student Permanent Admission Certificate. The certificate will be sent by email.
4. Representatives of the Ethics Committee will perform a sample test of students who obtained authorization (in coordination with the students), in order to check the fitness and quality of their work according to accepted procedures. Students who do not pass the test successfully, will be required to pass a training and undergo further testing In order to renew the authorization.
